Central sensitisation: Why your nervous system keeps chronic pain "ON".

Sympathetic dominance - "gas pedal": Mobilises your body for action or defence. Heart rate rises, breathing shallowly accelerates, muscle tone increases, and sensory pathways heighten pain perception.
Parasympathetic tone - "brake pedal": Governed primarily by the vagus nerve, this mode lowers systemic inflammation, reduces muscle guarding, slows heart rate, and initiates tissue repair.
