Beyond the social media trend: what a late ADHD diagnosis taught me about nervous system health.

You cannot open a social media app today without seeing content about ADHD. While breaking down stigma around neurodiversity is a positive step, the casual use of the phrase; "everyone's a little bit ADHD", completely misses the mark. ADHD isn't a quirky personality trait or a funny habit of losing your keys. It is a genuine neurodevelopmental condition that impacts executive function, dopamine regulation, and autonomic stress responses every single day.

Three years ago, I received my own late diagnosis. Suddenly, decades of personal patterns, internal restlessness, and sensory overload made complete sense. Having practiced right here in Browns Bay since 2011, this personal milestone completely shifted how I view clinical patient care. It reinforced just how deeply the nervous system, brain chemistry, and physical health are interconnected.

Why ADHD Is more than just inattention.
